DOT Physicals

What to expect

A DOT (Department of Transportation) physical at the Revived Medical Community Clinic is a required medical examination for commercial drivers who need to meet federal regulations to operate vehicles in the United States. The exam ensures that drivers are physically fit to safely operate large vehicles like trucks and buses. During the DOT physical, a licensed healthcare provider at the clinic will assess several aspects of a driver's health, including:

  1. Vision: Testing for adequate vision, including color vision, to ensure drivers can safely operate a vehicle.

  2. Hearing: Ensuring the driver can hear warning signals and communication.

  3. Blood Pressure and Heart Health: Checking for conditions like high blood pressure or heart issues that could impair driving.

  4. Urine Test: To check for diabetes or other underlying health conditions.

  5. General Health: The provider will also review the driver's overall physical health, including checking for any medical conditions (such as sleep apnea, epilepsy, or musculoskeletal issues) that might affect their ability to drive safely.

After the examination, if the driver meets the necessary health standards, they are issued a DOT medical certificate, which is typically valid for up to two years, unless otherwise specified by the healthcare provider. The Revived Medical Community Clinic offers this service to help ensure that drivers are physically capable of meeting the rigorous demands of their job while keeping the roads safe for everyone.
